Selena Quintanilla, also known as simply Selena, was a Mexican-American singer, songwriter, fashion designer, and actress. She was born on April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas, and tragically passed away on March 31, 1995, at the young age of 23.

Despite her relatively short life, Selena achieved incredible success during her career and became a beloved icon in the Latin music industry. She is often referred to as the Queen of Tejano music, and her influence can still be seen today, more than 25 years after her passing.

The Early Years

Selena was born into a musical family, and her father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., was a former musician who later managed Selena’s career. Selena began performing at a young age, first with her siblings in a group called Selena y Los Dinos and then as a solo artist.

The Rise to Fame

In 1989, Selena signed with EMI Latin and released her self-titled debut album. The album was a hit and earned Selena her first gold record. Her 1990 album, “Ven Conmigo,” became the first Tejano album to reach gold status, and Selena’s popularity continued to grow.

In 1992, Selena released her breakthrough album, “Entre a Mi Mundo.” The album sold over 300,000 copies in the first year and became the first Tejano album to reach platinum status. The album’s lead single, “Como La Flor,” became one of Selena’s most popular songs and helped her cross over into the mainstream music industry.

The Legacy

Tragically, Selena’s life was cut short in 1995 when she was murdered by the president of her fan club. The news of Selena’s death was met with shock and sorrow, and her funeral was attended by thousands of fans.
